Lightweight curtains are better than heavy draperies for kids allergic to dust mites, dyes or chemicals, simply because they have less fabric. However, if your kid’s room gets a lot of light, having both transparent and heavy curtains is advisable to protect the room from excessive light, or you can just opt for blinds and shutters, combining with more or less transparent curtains. Regardless of the age and gender, it’s advisable to change curtains every few years to somehow renew the design of the room. Besides, buying new curtains is much cheaper than painting the walls anew, or changing the furniture in your kid’s room.
Thicker fabrics can be used in brightly lit rooms, especially when we talk about small kids going to bed when it’s still early and there’s a lot of light in the room, or about teens who like to create an atmosphere of intimacy and mystery in their rooms. Likewise, don’t use very bright colors and delicate fabrics in brightly lit rooms as the light will make colors fade and fabrics wear out faster. Generally, it’s most advisable to have your curtains made of natural fabrics. But some such fabrics (for example, natural silk) are very delicate and not suitable for often wash. So when choosing the fabric make sure it’s easy to clean, preferably lightweight and able to hide dirt.
Blackout linings on the other hand are special linings which have ultraviolet resistant properties. This stops any light from passing through and causing interference in our childrens rooms. Both thermal and blackout curtains are perfect for nurseries, classrooms and kids playrooms too. You can purchase them in a variety of exciting hues and designs.
Once you have a kid you want to arrange his or her personal space the best possible way, spending many hours contemplating the kid’s room design and most appropriate accessories and decorative items you can use there. Every detail of a kid’s room is important. Furthermore, everything you have in a kid’s room must be safe for your child, otherwise there’s no need to have it there. Alongside such important choices as best furniture, wall color and design you should also consider choosing the right curtains for the kid’s room.
